Which one you should choose, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or the Honda NX500? | HighRPM

Honda has launched the NX500 their new adventure tourer, the NX500 has everything necessary for mile-munching and adventure trips. The Honda NX500 is standing against many adventure tourers and among them, the biggest rival in my opinion is the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

The new RE Himalayan 450 is loaded with features and power too, and the price of the new Himalayan 450 is very attractive as well. So, it's going to be very interesting to see which of these two bikes which one succeeds in grabbing the market, and which one you should choose.

Engine

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

Engine- liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC 452cc engine with 84mm of bore and 81.5mm of stroke
Power40bhp of power at 8000rpm
Torque- 40Nm of torque at 5500rpm

Honda NX500

Engine- liquid-cooled DOHC parallel twin 471cc engine which has 67mm of bore, 66.8mm of stroke, and a compression ratio of 10.7:1
Power46.8bhp of power at 8600rpm
Torque43Nm of torque at 6500rpm.

There is not a massive difference between the power and the torque figures of these two difference. The Honda NX500 gives you more power and torque than the RE Himalayan 450.

Mileage

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

Mileage- 28-29kmpl of fuel efficiency you can extract from this ADV.
Fuel Capacity- 17 litres
Range- 476km to 493km

Honda NX500

Mileage- 27-28kmpl of fuel efficiency.
Fuel Capacity- 17.5 litres
Range- 472km to 490km

There is no difference between the mileage of these two machines.

Features

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

  • Fully digital round instrument cluster,
  • Phone connectivity,
  • Full navigation on the instrument cluster,
  • Control music, calls, and message notifications,
  • Switchable dual-channel ABS,
  • Traction control,
  • Riding modes,
  • Ride-by-wire tech and all the usual things like, gear position indicator, clock, trip meter, tachometer, etc.

Honda NX500

  • 5-inch digital display,
  • smartphone connectivity,
  • Honda's torque control,
  • Slipper clutch,
  • Focus light at the front and
  • Dual channel ABS.
  • Other than these it comes with a gear position indicator, clock, tachometer, and all the usual things.

Both the bikes have gone crazy in terms of features too, Honda has introduced their new cluster and RE has all gone ahead with that but RE has more features like full fatch navigation on the go, call, and massage, music controls that are missing in Honda. Although these things won't play much role but can alter someone's buying decision.

Price

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

The price of the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 starts at 2.85 lakh and it goes all the way up to 2.98 lakh ex-showroom.

It is present in a single variant but the price difference is because of the design, it comes in 5 designs or one can say 5 different paint schemes.

Honda NX500

Meanwhile, the price of this Honda is not even close to Himalayan 450.
This one is all available in a single variant which costs you around 5.90 lakh ex-showroom.

So, the Honda NX500 is way more pricey than the RE Himalayan even the on-road price of the Himalayan is not going to touch the ex-showroom price of the NX500.

Seriously speaking, the Honda NX500 is looking over price to me right now, I know that it offers more power and torque but the difference is not huge and it does not offer many stand-out features like RE does.
