Kia Seltos or MG Astor, which one is your ideal car? | HighRPM

Confusion while buying a car is a nightmare in itself, too much features, too much things to keep in mind, too much this, that and all. But when you get a proper compression between cars you have selected it feels like a chilled lemonade in hot summer.

So, to help you a bit this a comparison between two hot red velvet cakes of the market right now the Kia Seltos and the MG Astor, both the cars have their own separate fan base and this is because of their charming personalities and some cool things about them.

These are not the top end variants of the cars you are seeing in the photos, these are mid-range variants, these variants offers you almost all the features and amenities they have, so let's ignite the engines..........

Price

  • MG Astor- 9.78 lakh - 17.38 lakh
  • Kia Seltos- 9.95 lakh - 18.10 lakh
These are the ex-showroom prices.
The variants available in this post cost around,

  • MG Astor- Sharp 1.5 Manual- 13.98 lakh
  • Kia Seltos- HTX 1.5 Manual- 13.75 lakh
These are also ex-showroom prices.

If you see towards Seltos it is slightly expensive than the Astor but the number of variants Kia is offering is too much in compression of MG which makes price almost flexible for the you.

Engine

MG Astor- Astor is available in 1.3L and 1.5L petrol engine.

1.5L- 1498cc 4 inline cylinder DOHC VTi-TECH 1.5L engine.

Power- 108bhp at 6000rpm
Torque- 144Nm at 4400rpm

Transmission- 5 speed manual and 6 speed CVT.

1.3L- 1349cc 3 inline cylinder DOHC 220Turbo 1.3L engine

Power- 138bhp at 5600rpm
Torque- 220Nm at 3600rpm

Transmission- 6 speed Torque Converter with sport mode no paddle shifters.

FWD car with BS6 emission norm

Kia Seltos- This is one is available in 1.5L petrol & diesel and also in 1.4L petrol.

1.5L diesel- 1493cc 4 inline cylinder DOHC 1.5 CRDi VGT turbocharged diesel engine

Power- 113bhp at 4000rpm
Torque- 250Nm at 1500 rpm

Transmission- 6 gear manual and Torque Converter automatic.

1.4L petrol- 1353cc 4 inline cylinder DOHC Smartstream G1.4 T-GDZ turbocharged petrol engine

Power- 138bhp at 6000rpm
Torque- 242Nm at 1500rpm

Transmission- 6 gear manual transmission and 7 speed DCT transmission.

1.5L petrol- 1497cc 4 inline cylinder DOHC Smartstream G1.5 petrol engine

Power- 113bhp
Torque- 144Nm at 4500rpm

Transmission- 6 speed manual transmission, clutchless manual and CVT automatic.

Seltos is a FWD vehicle with BS6 emission norm.

In terms of power and torque both the cars are generating pretty much same amount of power and torque not a big noticable difference.

The best thing about Seltos is that it is available in diesel as well, now how MG will convince diesel heads out there they know better than me.

Safety

MG Astor NCAP test is still pending meanwhile Astor get all the safety features including 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, brake assist, traction control, hill hold control, hill descent control.

On the other hand Kia Seltos scored 3 stars for adult safety and 2 stars for child safety. It includes 6 airbags, traction control, ABS, EBD, ESP, hill hold control, brake assist.

Both the cars are well equipped with safety features but NCAP rating of Astor can reveal things more clearly.

Fuel economy

MG Astor's mileage is not yet out by the brand but the fuel tank capacity is known.

1.3L- 45 litres

1.5L- 48 litres

Kia Seltos- Petrol 1.5- Manual- 16.5 km/l

                    Auto- 16.8 km/l

Petrol 1.4- Manual- 16.1 km/l

                   Auto- 16.5 km/l

Diesel- Manual- 21 km/l

             Auto- 18 km/l

Fuel tank capacity- 50 litres

Seltos diesel manual gives you the best mileage and tank is also bigger than Astor.

Dimensions

MG Astor- Length- 4.323m

                   Width- 1.809m

                   Height- 1.650m

                   Wheelbase- 2.505m

Kia Seltos-Length- 4.315m

                   Width- 1.800m

                   Height- 1.626m

                   Wheelbase- 2.610m

Almost same dimensions but Seltos wheelbase is longer than Astor and Astor is bit lengthy than Seltos.

Lights

MG Astor- Headlamps- LED

                   Tail lights- LED

                   Fog lamps- Halogen

                   DRLs- LED

Kia Seltos- Headlamps- LED

                    Tail lights- LED

                    Fog lamps- LED

                    DRLs- LED

                    Ambient lights- Available

Seltos get ambient lights and its fog lamps are also LED and the DRLs of Seltos looking phenomenal, Astor have kinda normal DRL design.

Exterior

Seriously speaking I love the looks of Astor more than Seltos, Astor is looking very sporty and on the other hand Kia Seltos is also an handsome looking SUV but I'll choose Astor.

Interior

I have experienced both the cars and I felt that Astor is slightly more spacious than Seltos and seats of Astor are more comfortable to me than Seltos and one more important thing MG offer you is soft touch material on dashboard and Kia won't. I really like the quality of Astor. And that panaromic sunroof in Astor makes cabin more refreshing. But Seltos is giving you sun blinds for rear seats which is a nice touch.

Astor

Seltos

Conclusion

In my opinion MG Astor is providing too many things, looks are great, interior is amazing, powerful 1.3L petrol engine and it is also feature loaded with lots of safety functions. One thing which make Astor low is no diesel engine which Kia Seltos is offering you and there lots of diesel guy.
