Which one is the best, the Isuzu D-Max or the new Toyota Hilux | Pickup trucks | HighRPM

Indian automobile market has alot of segments and categories alike other markets although many segments or you can say categories are still away from Indian land but that's not a big deal but one category of 4 wheeler recently took pace, the family pickup truck category and this happen because of Toyota's new vehicle the Toyota Hilux before Hilux there was only one player in the game, the Isuzu D-Max.

Now, the situation is after added competition people are confuse between D-Max and Hilux. Therefore this post is all about these two badass (not Kia) vehicles or you can say brutal off-roading animals.

Price

Toyota Hilux

The price of Hilux starts at 33.99 lakh and the cost of top model goes up to 36.80 lakh. It is available in three variants.

Starting price- 33.99 lakh

Top model- 36.80 lakh

Isuzu D-Max

Its price starts at 16.98 lakh and the model cost around 24.49 lakh. This one is available in four variants.

Starting price- 19.68 lakh

Top model- 25.55 lakh

These are the ex-showroom prices, comparatively, the Isuzu has much lower rate than Hilux however the top model of D-Max cost you almost close to Hilux when it comes to on road price.

Engine, Power and Transmission

Toyota Hilux

2755cc 4 inline cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. It comes with both manual & automatic transmission and its an AWD vehicle with BS6 emission compliant.

  • Power- 201bhp @ 3000rpm
  • Torque- 500Nm @1600rpm (automatic)
  • Torque- 420Nm @1600rpm (manual)

Isuzu D-Max

1898cc 4inline cylinder DOHC Common Rail VGS Turbo inter cooled diesel engine this engine. Manual & automatic transmission both are available, AWD and BS6 emission compliant.

  • Power- 165bhp @ 3600rpm
  • Torque- 360Nm @ 2000rpm,

Both the vehicles are powered by diesel engine, petrol option is not there but that's great, I believe, because these are trucks used for some heavy duty and some serious off-road stuff.

D-Max has smaller heart than Hilux even it won't have 2.0L engine which is kinda suprising. The power and torque figures are also less, of course, but these figures are same for manual as well as automatic not like Toyota.

Safety features and other

Toyota Hilux

  • 7 airbags
  • ABS
  • ESP
  • EBD
  • Brake assist
  • Active traction control
  • Hill hold control
  • Hill descent control
  • Electronic differential lock

  • Child seat mount
  • Child safety lock
  • Speed sensing door lock
  • Auto headlamps

    • Eco
    • Power
  • Engine immobilizer

Isuzu D-Max

  • Hill descent control

  • Android auto connect
  • Apple car play
  • 6 way electric seat adjust (driver only)
  • Automatic head light leveler

  • All time AWD

These are the fatures of top models and Hilux is coming with plenty of features in front of Isuzu meanwhile Isuzu haven't managed to give that much features and the features Isuzu is offering is literally not justifying its price.

Being a pick-up truck you won't have differential lock system, all time 4×4, no hill hold control even it won't have center locking that's crazy man what Isuzu was thinking while building this vehicle, just about presence nothing else, don't say that it's not that expensive like Hilux, D-Max top end cost 32 lakh+ on road.

Tyres, Brakes and suspension

Toyota Hilux

Brakes- Front- Ventilated Disc

               Rear- Drum

Tyres- Front- 265/60 R18

             Rear- 265/60 R18

Suspension- Front- Double Wishbone

                       Rear- Leaf spring

Isuzu D-Max

Brakes- Front- Disc

             Rear- 255/60 R18

Suspension- Front- Independent Double Wishbone

                       Rear- Leaf spring

In terms of cost cutting Isuzu and Toyota both, broke all the barriers, seriously, you people are giving drum brakes at rear on these EXPENSIVE vehicles.

Lights

Toyota Hilux

  • Headlamps- LED
  • Tail lights- LED
  • Fog lamps- LED
  • DRLs- LED

Isuzu D-Max

  • Headlamps- LED
  • Tail lights- LED
  • Fog lamps- Halogen
  • DRLs- LED

Dimensions and weight

Toyota Hilux

  • Length- 5.325m
  • Width- 1.855m
  • Height- 1.815m
  • Wheelbase- 3.085m
  • loading capacity- 470Kg

Isuzu D-Max

  • Length- 5.290m
  • Width- 1.860m
  • Height- 1.840m
  • Wheelbase- 3.090m
  • Loading capacity- 180Kg

Dimensions are pretty much same not that drastic difference but, yes, loading capacity of Hilux is much much higher than the D-Max.

Both the cars are tough and having great off road capabilities that insure to give you amazing offroading experience although I believe both the cars are over priced. Definately the looks and practicality kinda justify the price but in terms of features both the brand have done cost cutting like crazy especially Isuzu.

Having all these drawbacks won't wash off its positive things like practicality, power and overwhelming road presence and great off road abilities.
